Recapping my Five (5) Favourite Point Spread Betting Lines for Week Four (4) of the 2013 NFL Football Season.
Week Four Result: 2-3 (Correct on honourable mention though)
After Four Weeks: 9-10-1
Baltimore Ravens @ Buffalo Bills +3.5: BUF 23 – 20 BAL, LOSS
The Ravens had more than once chance to win this game, including a couple of drives late where the Ravens only needed a FG to tie, but to often ended up as Joe Flacco interceptions. Once again the Ravens play caller got forgot about their solid running game, giving Rice and Peirce a combined 9 carries while letting Flacco throw 50 times. I have seen this one to many times from the Baltimore offensive play callers.
Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions -2.5: DET 40 – 32 CHI, LOSS
Through the week I heard many experts and analysts predict a win for the Lions, who were 3-point favourites. Despite all the talk of a Lions win I still thought the Bears were the better team and could get the win on the road. I was very wrong, as the Lions put up 40 points against the Bears defence that did not have Charles Tillman at full strength, which was visible. Chicago also struggles winning road games in their division, a fact that I chose to ignore. I was just straight wrong on this one and didn’t see the writing on the wall.
New York Giants @ Kansas City Chiefs -4.5: KC 31 – 7 NYG, WIN
Both teams had three turnovers in the game, but Chiefs QB Alex Smith was able to throw for three touchdowns while the defence returned a punt for a touchdown while the Giants produced only one touchdown as a team. I was extremely confident that the now well-coached and quarterbacked Chiefs would beat the Giants, but I am unsure about how next weekend’s matchup between the Giants and Eagles will go.
Philadelphia Eagles @ Denver Broncos -11.5: DEN 52 – 20 PHI, WIN
As most people and myself predicted the game was relatively close at half time with the Broncos holding an 8-point lead, but things fell apart for the Eagles in the second half. Peyton through three unanswered touchdown passes in the third quarter while the defence started the fourth quarter with a blocked punt for a touchdown. The Broncos offence looks unstoppable while the Eagles defence can’t stop anything.
Dallas Cowboys @ San Diego Chargers +2.5: SD 31 – 23 DAL, LOSS
Once again, the Cowboys have burned me. They carried a 21-13 lead into the half time break, but were unable to score a single point in the second half as the Chargers scored 17 unanswered points. Rivers outplayed Romo, who missed more passes, threw for less yards per attempt and was sacked three times for 19 yards of loss. I will say thought that I think I underestimated the Chargers as opposed to overestimating the Cowboys. Rivers and the Chargers are playing much better with Mike McCoy as head coach and are a couple of close plays away from being undefeated.
Honorable Mention: Miami Dolphins @ New Orleans Saints -6.5: NOW 38 – 17 MIA, WIN
My Dolphins lost, but it was as expected playing against a superior Saints team in the Superdome. Drew Brees was on point, throwing for over 400 yards and 4 touchdowns on 30/39 passing while Ryan Tannehill threw three interceptions and lost another fumble, something that has plagued him this season. The more I watch the Saints play this season the more I think they are one of the top-5 overall teams in the league.
