Week Eight Result: 2-3
After Eight Weeks: 14-25-1
Pittsburgh Steelers -2.5 @ Oakland Raiders: PIT 18 – 21 OAK, LOSS
Terrelle Pryor started the game off with a 93-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage before Darren McFadden added a 7-yard touchdown run in the first quarter as well for a 14-point Raider lead and terrible start for my bet. The Raiders would eventually go up 21-3 at the half. The Steelers would answer back with a pair of 4th quarter touchdowns but it was not enough as the Raiders held on for a 3-point win. I feel as though the Raiders have had a few games now where they play much better in the first half then in the second half.
Cleveland Browns @ Kansas City Chiefs -8.5: CLE 17 – 23 KAN, LOSS
Unfortunately for me and anyone else betting on Kansas City to cover the spread, Browns quarterback Jason Campbell had a pretty good game making his first start since 2011. Campbell completed 22 of his 36 passes for 293 yards a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions. Alex Smith was his usual self with similar stats to those of Campbell, but completing more passes for less yards. The difference in this game was the Kansas City defence that was able to keep the Browns at bay in the second half after getting a 20-7 lead.
New York Jets @ Cincinnati Bengals -6.5: NYJ 9 – 49 CIN, WIN
The Bengals absolutely manhandles the Jets, scoring touchdowns at will and winning by 40 points. The game served as the coming out party for WR Marvin Jones who ended up with 122 yards and four touchdown catches. Jones saw eight targets in the game, one more than AJ Green, and caught all of them. This is the 3rd game in a row that Dalton has thrown at least three touchdowns and has 11 total with just two interceptions. Bottom line is that Dalton is looking like a weekly starter after being heavily criticized earlier in the season and Marvin Jones is a top waiver wire pickup.
Washington Redskins @ Denver Broncos -13.5: WAS 21 – 45 DEN, WIN
I was worried I was going to lose this bet too early in the third quarter as the Redskins led the Broncos 21-7 after one of three Peyton Manning interceptions on the day was returned for a touchdown. From that point on however the Broncos would take over the game and score 38 unanswered points. It was quite remarkable watching Peyton and the Broncos dismantle the Redskins in less than two quarters.
Seattle Seahawks -11.5 @ St. Louis Rams: SEA 14 – 9 STL, LOSS
I am not going to say much about this one. The Seahawks never got going on offence and were outplayed by the Rams defensive line. Luckily for Seattle, Rams quarterback Kellen Clemens through a pair of very untimely interceptions that allowed the Seahawks to win a game in which they were outplayed.
