Week Thirteen Result: 2-3
After Thirteen Weeks: 26-38-1
Jacksonville Jaguars +7.5 @ Cleveland Browns: JAC 32 – 28 CLE, WIN
This was the easiest pick of the week for me. After starting the season with eight straight losses, many of them by double-digit points, the Jaguars are actually looking like a competitive team lately. Following this road win over the Browns the Jags have now won three of their last four contests. The Browns on the other hand have only won one game in their last seven games and look like the leagues new Jaguars (along with the Texans).
Tennessee Titans +4.5 @ Indianapolis Colts: TEN 14 – 22 IND, LOSS
Things were looking good for most of this game, as the Colts were only able to muster field goals while the Titans were able to score a pair of touchdowns. With less than two minutes left and up by a point, the Colts were finally able to score a touchdown and give them an eight-point win. I was really hoping the Titans defence would hold strong once again for just a four-point win and covering the spread. But alas, it was not to be.
St. Louis Rams +7.5 @ San Francisco ‘49ers: STL 13 – 23 SF, LOSS
This game was never really as close I was expecting it to be as the ‘49ers scored the first 13 points of the game and went into the half up 13-3. The Rams opened the third quarter with a field goal to make it a seven-point game and give me hope, but the ‘49ers would come back with their own field goal followed by a Vernon Davis touchdown catch. The Rams were not able to score their only touchdown of the game until the final 30 seconds. The ‘49ers are really coming on strong at the moment and are being boosted by the return of some injured players, most notably Michael Crabtree.
Atlanta Falcons @ Buffalo Bills -3.5: ATL 37 – 34 BUF, LOSS
I really thought the Bills were going to come out strong and try to earn just their second win since playing one game a year in Toronto. The game itself was pretty exciting considering the combined record of these two teams, and the Bills came out strong with a 14-point lead, but were unable to hold on and eventually lose in OT. The Bills were able to run all over the Falcons with 191 yards on the ground between Spiller and Fred Jackson, but Matt Ryan was able to throw for 311 yards and keep the Falcons in the game. Looking at the Bills week 14 matchup against the Buccaneers, I can’t help but think it will be another losing effort.
New York Giants -2.5 @ Washington Redskins: NYG 24 – 17 WAS, WIN
I thought I was going to have another 1-4 week after the Redskins went up 14-0 in the early in the second quarter, but they were unable to put up much more offence and ended up losing by a touchdown themselves. The Giants tied the game by halftime and following a third quarter field goal by Washington (the only points the ‘Skins scored in the second half), scored 10 points in the fourth quarter and earned the win to somewhat keep their playoff hopes alive. Washington is a shell of the team that last year took over the spotlight as they won 6 straight to win the division.
