Week Fourteen Result: 3-2
After Fourteen Weeks: 29-40-1
Minnesota Vikings +7.5 @ Baltimore Ravens: 26 MIN – 29 BAL, WIN
This was one of the craziest finishes to a football game that I have ever seen as both teams traded touchdowns in the final two minute of the game. I imagine most people have at least seen the highlights, and if you haven’t, get on it! In the finals two minutes and five second these teams scored five touchdowns, turning a 12-7 Vikings lead into a 29-26 Ravens win. At no point did either team lead by more than a touchdown (the first one of the game). I look forward to seeing the spreads for Baltimore in the coming weeks as they are playing for a playoff spot and have a tough schedule that includes the Lions, Patriots and Bengals; I think we will see some more close games.
Cleveland Browns @ New England Patriots -11.5: CLE 26 – 27 NE, LOSS
The Patriots were anemic on offence to start the game, failing to score any points in the first half. The Pats lost Rob Gronkowski in the game, which didn’t help, but it was not until the final two minutes of the game that Tom Brady took over and led his team on two touchdown scoring drives. I don’t know if it was luck (they recovered an onside kick) or just more Brady magic as the Patriots came back for an improbable win. Despite the fantastic finish to this game, the big news this week is going to be the loss of Gronkowski for the season and how the Patriots will be able to score moving forward. A team that was looking like it could challenge for a Superbowl birth is now without their best target once again.
Buffalo Bills @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers -2.5: BUF 6 – 27 TB, WIN
The Buccaneers had control of this game from the jump as running back Bobby Rainey took the ball 80 yards to the house on the opening drive of the game and then led 24-3 at the half. In a comeback effort rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel had one of his worst starts of the season with four interceptions. The Bills strength is their running game, which was held to just 22 total rushes as they were playing from behind the entire game.
Tennessee Titans @ Denver Broncos -12.5: TEN 28 – 51 DEN, WIN
As has been the trend with many Broncos games, it was closer than expected at the half before Peyton Manning and the boys took over and finish with a 23-point win. I would not be surprised if next weeks game against the Chargers plays out in a similar way. The Broncos will again be at home; hosting a Chargers team they beat by eight earlier in the season in San Diego.
Dallas Cowboys +1.5 @ Chicago Bears: DAL 28 – 45 CHI, LOSS
In a game that started off competitive as the two team traded touchdowns for a 14-14 tie, the Bears eventually took over and scored at will against the Cowboys. The Cowboy’s defence is playing at a historically bad level so far this season and allowed journeyman Josh McCown to score five touchdown; I believe the Bears scored points on every drive of the game. The Bears defence has also been bad this season, especially against the run (Murray had 140 rushing yards), but was at least able to stop the Cowboys a few times and limited them in the passing game. If the Cowboys can’t make some sort of adjustment on defence they are going to lose the division to the Eagles.
